The Constant Sorrows are a new band formed in 2019 and have just released their eponymous first CD, "The Constant Sorrows", consisting of 14 tracks written by D.B. Morris and Dan Coffeen. Dan already had a great band he fronted, 'Cowboy Empire', specializing in 'Americana' songs. They had been playing together for 20 years and are a very strong unit backing D.B. and Dan. D..B. is primarily an award winning filmmaker (Sundance Grand Prize among other awards) and released his last CD in 2010 from his band, 'The U.K. Gun Club,' "State Of The Union", (also available on CD Baby) which dealt primarily with the Great Recession. When Dan, a graduate of a noted music college and classically trained) met D.B. in 2018 and he played Dan some of his demos, they decided to form a new band, hence TCS. They recorded over 25 songs for their new CD, including several uptempo rockers, but in the difficult editing process to narrow the tracks down to 14 songs, they decided to include only the tracks that were more 'reflective' of the human condition. I know that sounds pretentious, but it's the best way to describe their mindset. Perhaps the outbreak of Covid at the same time had something to do with it. The outtakes from the band's first session will more than likely appear on subsequent albums where their tone and tempo fit better. Or they also might be released as singles. Watch for them here.
