Behind The Crooked Spoke are Asger Baden (keyboards and more) and Peter Leth (drums and more). The guys met through Copenhagen’s tight-knit music community and have played together in various constellations until The Crooked Spoke was born.
The One You Left Behind is a collection of compositions which evolved organically with no particular style or genre in mind, but is undeniably reminiscent of old film music as well as surf rock from the 60ies. The Crooked Spoke don’t hold back – dramatic effects and powerful emotions activate the senses.
The production of the music was an undeniably central to the The One You Left Behind. But the melody and composition remains at the music’s core. The melodies captivate and appeal but the often radical studio production magnifies the ambience.
Working from a tiny studio in Copenhagen’s gritty North West quarter, The One You Left Behind was entirely self-produced by the duo. But they did get help from a number of prominent collaborators including Claus Hempler, whose smooth and timeless vocals grace the album’s title song. The singer Maria Laurette Friis (Tys Tys) contributes her unforgettable voice to the track Black Tower Hotel.
