THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN Launched in 2021 behind the creative energies of members Chris Roberts (founding vocalist of Corsets Are Cages [now Emarosa]), guitarist Chris Wethington (<a href="spotify:artist:3y8JSazi8hWvLiSFXQqGIk" data-name="Softspoken">Softspoken</a>), and drummer Cody Frain (<a href="spotify:artist:5aqpMOXNPtkxwT7jWuE9Vd" data-name="If Not For Me">If Not For Me</a>).
Classifying themselves as “moody and gloomy post-hardcore,” THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN are masterful in blending elements of classic post-hardcore with modern metalcore to create a soundscape that enraptures the listener with a unique blend of dark yet uplifting vocals and progressive instrumentation.
Their debut single "<a href="spotify:album:0JCdlroht5tqOObB1U92u3" data-name="Detach: Envenom">Detach: Envenom</a>" was premiered by Revolver Magazine, and received praise from outlets such as Chorus.fm as being in the same vein as post-hardcore OGs Underoath, Saosin, and Thrice.
They followed up their debut with the release of 2022's 7-track EP "<a href="spotify:album:4lxPMKBrn4KyI7p4AKaazG" data-name="Old Ghosts">Old Ghosts</a>", which touches on the ghosts we all deal with in our lives; ghosts of our past selves, past relationships, past enemies, and past regrets while still holding hope for the future.
"This is really just a collective representation of the truest parts of each of us," vocalist Chris Roberts explains.
"The music that we make is just taking the emotions that we have, and turning them into something healing. It's cathartic," Roberts expands, "and the hope is that anyone listening can relate and find a similar sense of healing.
"We're all on separate paths, but the difference between us isn't really all that great."
