The Du-Rites are an NYC-based instrumental funk combo of Jay Mumford (fka J-Zone) on drums + keys and Pablo Martin on guitar, bass + keys. Prior to du-ing this, Jay was a hip-hop producer/artist and Pablo earned his stripes as a guitarist for the modern day line-up of Tom Tom Club and engineer. In 2013, the pair began jamming for fun after Jay learned to play drums during an extended hiatus from music. But after 3 years of other plans falling through and musical paths changing, Jay and Pablo decided to bring The Du-Rites to life. Their eponymous debut album was released in 2016 to unexpected praise. The duo quickly followed with a sophomore effort, Greasy Listening (2017); Gamma Ray Jones, a score to a lost 1972 TV detective show (2018); a live album, Soundcheck at 6 (2019); the pandemic-fueled A Funky Bad Time (2020); the more abstract, jazz-tinged Pressure EP (2021) and a slew of singles along the way. French producer/DJ Wax Tailor hired The Du-Rites to remix "Worldwide," his collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah. They scored scene music and the theme song for Bobbito Garcia's documentary, Rock Rubber 45s. They're also the rhythm section on the theme song, which features jazz heavyweights Eddie Palmieri and Robert Glasper. Live, they've opened for The Skatalites and RJD2 and have collaborated with Beastie Boys keyboardist Money Mark and Sun Ra Arkestra percussionist Elson Nascimento. The Du-Rites' seventh album, Plug It In, was released in November 2022.
