The Geeks (or The Geeks PH) is an indie band formed in Quezon City, Philippines by vocalist/guitarist Jam Lorenzo (also of acclaimed indie rock group spacedog spacecat), drummer Brian Sangco, and bass player Mags Borbon. Known for their long song titles and loud guitars, the Geeks’ brand of happy/sad melancholia is a healthy mix of sounds ranging from slacker rock, indie pop, sad bastard, and surf-inspired music.
Since forming in 2013, the band has produced several acclaimed albums and EPs starting with the charmingly lo-fi Monsters Under Your Bed (2018 Extra Lo-Fi Edition) (2013). This was followed by 2017’s The Double-Sided Sophomore Slump which showcased a wiser and more experienced sound. 2018’s “Weirdly! Relatable! Content!,” highlighted a more mature and minimalist approach to songwriting. The band’s latest record, 2022's "Sitcom Theme Songs," is the culmination of a decade-long obsession with writing songs about loneliness, isolation, and the burden of existence.
The band remains a fixture in Manila’s independent gigging circuit, and has maintained a healthy cult following. True to the band's slacker roots, every live Geeks set is an eclectic and unpredictable mix of dumb spiels, musical ineptitude, and pop culture references.
The Geeks is currently signed under Lilystars Records, Manila’s finest Indie Pop label.
