The Great Disappointment, while primarily an alternative rock band, draws from such diverse influences such as alternative rock pioneers Pixies and The Replacements, art rockers 10cc, math rockers Black Midi, fusion greats like Frank Zappa, and power pop legends Big Star.
Formed in 2023 by vocalists and guitarists Clemens Nitchie and Evan Porter, the group originally started out as a duo. In this configuration, Nitchie and Porter recorded the band's first EP, a demo tape titled Russian Satellites, containing 8 songs that the duo had worked up in August 2024. Before long, the duo grew into a quartet, adding bassist Calvin Smith and drummer Aiden Zaro. The band released their self-produced first full-length album, Steak Nite 1987, in August 2025.
