Dark and brooding indie goth rock act the Hunt were formed in 2007 by New York musicians Jasper McGandy and Christian Kount. Enamored with the work of post-punk bands like Southern Death Cult and New Model Army, the Hunt began writing songs and playing in and around New York, eventually embarking on a few short tours as well and issuing their debut 7" in 2007 as the first release on the just-started Sacred Bones label. The bandmembers attempted to record a full-length several times, eventually returning to their collective hometown of Boston, where they successfully put their tunes to tape. Before the record ever saw release, however, the Hunt broke up and the album was shelved, leaving behind only their regional shows and sole 7" release to be remembered by. Both Kount and McGandy went on to join the like-minded act Cult of Youth. Meanwhile, to celebrate its 100th release, Sacred Bones finally issued the canned full-length The Hunt Begins in 2013, returning to the band whose debut 7" happened to be the label's first recording. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
