The Immaculate Crows were originally an Australian Brisbane-based Alternative band formed and named by Bruce Neilsen(songwriter, guitarist, harmonica, occasional bass and arrangements) in November 1981. They broke up in May 1985.
Bruce and former member Mark Hocknell reunited in 2019 and several new songs were recorded and released from June 2020. Mark co-produced and played on songs written and arranged by Bruce who also played on all songs. Mark left in February 2021. The Immaculate Crows evolved into a loose collective of musicians who perform on recordings of songs written and arranged by Bruce Neilsen and produced by Carolyn Neilsen. Current singers include Nicky Steel, Jessica Shipley and Daphne Mae. The music is varied and ranges from Punk, Psychedelic, New Wave, Indie Pop to Roots and Rhythm and Blues. Song topics also vary from social comment(Youth Suicide, Domestic Violence, Poverty, Alienation) to love songs with a twist. Listeners and Reviewers have said the music reminds them of artists as diverse as Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Patti Smith, Paul Kelly, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Siousxie and the Banshees, Echo and the Bunnymen, Santana, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles. While there are Retro elements the music has its own unique sound that is hard to categorise.
