The Lavender Project bloomed out of the chaos of COVID, when longtime collaborators Jet Hertz and Fernando Mendoza (who have been trading rhymes since high school) pulled together a crew of friends from across the La Crosse music scene. What started as a quarantine idea quickly grew into something bigger—a genre-bending band that blends hip hop, rock, jazz, and raw live energy.
They premiered on La Crosse Local with Mike Calarco and Dylan Overhouse, and since then The Lavender Project has built a reputation for explosive shows, improvisation, and the kind of chemistry only real friends can bring to the stage.
The lineup feels like a local supergroup: Jet Hertz and Mendoza on the mic, Anthony Speer (Knee High July) holding down the bass, Emmett O’Connell on sax and Andrew Head on drums (both from The Sugar Lads), and Keegan Martin (CharlieBoy) rounding out the sound.
At its heart, The Lavender Project is about breaking boundaries—a sound as unpredictable as it is unforgettable.
