The Massacre Cave is an important historical landmark on the small Hebridean Isle of Eigg. It is a cave in which all but one of its 400 inhabitants were slaughtered in 1577. It is also the name adopted by a 4-piece metal band from Eigg fronted by island brothers Joe and Ben Cormack.
After the critical success of their mini-album The Ninth Wave, the 14th of February 2020 marks the release of The Massacre Cave's debut full length album, GODLUST.
Such a small island has a surprising amount of musical output. Joe explains:
“We're still the best metal band from Eigg, but no longer the most famous band. Gabe McVarish from Gaelic supergroup Daimh lives there, and Johnny Lynch, aka Pictish Trail, has muscled in on our Eigg schtick and taken it to the masses. We invited him to scream on the album track ‘Tetramethrin’ with the hope it'd ruin his voice and career. Unfortunately after a week of gargling honey, lemon and delicious booze he got his heavenly voice back. But seriously, we love that guy.”
The brothers (literal) are joined by brothers-in-metal (metaphorical) Jodie Bremenason and Pete Colquhoun. The Massacre Cave was formed in 2006 when Ben and Joe met Pete after a tip-off that he was a good drummer which fortunately turned out to be true, and the three gelled perfectly. The line up was completed soon after when they tentatively invited good friend and established bass maestro Jodie to join.
