New Zealand indie electronic band The Naked and Famous are renowned for their euphoric blend of synth-pop, post-punk, and alt-rock.
Centered around its founding members, Alisa Xayalith and Thomas Powers, the band broke through internationally with their 2010 debut album, Passive Me, Aggressive You, featuring the multi-platinum, era-defining hit “Young Blood.”
In 2012, they relocated to Los Angeles to create their sophomore album, In Rolling Waves. Led by the single “Hearts Like Ours,” the record leaned into a more introspective and restrained sound while maintaining the band’s widescreen, festival-ready energy.
Their third album, Simple Forms, was released in 2016, following the aftermath of Xayalith and Powers’ romantic breakup—a personal shift that profoundly shaped the emotional core of the record. Produced by Powers at his home studio in Echo Park, the album featured the soaring single “Higher.”
In 2018, the duo welcomed keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist Luna Shadows to the lineup and began work on their fourth album, Recover. Marked by themes of healing and resilience, the album’s lead single “Sunseeker” reflected its hopeful and uplifting spirit.
