Perth in 1987 was awash with a phenomenon known as the cover band supergroup. Members of popular cover bands who ruled the beer barns of the suburbs would spontaneously rearrange themselves in different configurations with new names to play the same cover songs. Weird.
The Neptunes was conceived as a one off piss take on this bizarre behaviour and brought together members of popular original bands The Bamboos, The Marigolds, The Stems, The Diddy Wah Hoodaddys, The Freuds and The Edsels in an original band surf music supergroup.
Intended for one performance only The Neptunes created so much mayhem and proved so popular that the members went on the sign a record deal with Citadel Records, release a few classic vinyls and toured Australia several times between 87 and 92. Neptunes summer gigs at venues such as the Shenton Park Hotel are the stuff of legend regularly drawing over 500 punters and setting house drinking records which were never bettered.
The Neptunes have re-formed a number of times over the years & still occasionally play live. Our recorded works are compiled in this remastered catalogue compiled by Greg Hitchcock who did all our album art.
This album “Golden Orange Laughter”was released on CD by Citadel Records and there are copies floating around the internet. Our vinyls still change hand with record collectors online.
