The Penner Sisters are part of a three-sibling set of musicians: Elisa Annis, whose stage name is now PENNER, Brianna Penner, and Devin Penner. Their debut acoustic EP, Wandered Too Far began to be written at the start of the pandemic, so the creation process unfolded in several siloed stages. The Penner Sisters wrote the lyrics for all three songs and then all three siblings jointly composed the music, helping each other in a seamless tag-team process. Devin’s expertise, which he cultivated when he worked as a jazz pianist for the Marine Corps All-Star Jazz Band was a pivotal component to creating the rich sound of the EP. He reinforced the Penner Sisters’ melodies with supportive instrumental chords and unique piano ornamentation and laid down the bass and drum tracks for Criminal Daydreams and Star Thistle Honey. The Penners were thrilled to partner with indie musician Michael Dayvid for this project as well. Michael Dayvid brought his guitar-playing skills to each of the EP's three songs, which he recorded at Bongo Boy Studio. Finally, Dominic Romano (Karamanauts, The Gatehouse Well) created drums and refined the bass for Better Off, Red. Dominic Romano also provided sound engineering and final co-production of the Penners' music to get the final versions of the songs. The process was facilitated by Executive Producer Zachary Zwerdling of Mercury Sky Records.
PENNER is only just beginning her musical debut and intends to release a solo pop EP in 2021. Stay tuned!
