On the heels of Caroline Peyton’s 1972 Woodstock-hangover LP Mock Up, producer/songwriter Mark Bingham and his Bloomington, Indiana, collective of communal musicians and freaks set sail on a voyage deep into the private press iris. In The Eye —the resulting 1973 album by the 17-piece Screaming Gypsy Bandits collective—is a genre-bending psychedelic expression unconcerned with the media, the fuzz, and society at large.
