Lo! What doth thine hear over the crashing waves and churlish gulls? Could it be the sound of a lonely heart breaking, or perhaps the sigh after a first kiss? Maybe the gentle strum of a sleepy guitar, caressed by a wandering jazzman? These sounds and many more populate the romantic world of “Marshmallow”, the delightful debut album by The Sweet Enoughs. Conjured from the imagination of the enigmatic and mysterious Yannis Dreamlake and transcribed lovingly into sonic bliss by an illustrious cast of his devoted protégés, Marshmallow is a collection fit to calm the most savage of beasts. According to those nearest the elusive Mr Dreamlake, the landscapes painted so vividly on this stereophonic record arrived in a dream, or perhaps an astral journey, from the gleaming deck of his yacht cast adrift in the sparkling Mediterranean. Charismatic, but usually hidden from the public eye, Dreamlake has more than a knack for fulfilling the role of visionary auteur, and with “Marshmallow”, he certainly paints us a technicolour vision that evokes the majesty of the big screen.
