Veteran American hard rock trio the Winery Dogs feature the talents of vocalist/guitarist Richie Kotzen (Poison, Mr. Big), bass player Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Steve Vai), and drummer Mike Portnoy (co-founder of Dream Theater). Inspired by 1970s classic rock as well as the collected outputs of their prior projects, the group first got together to test the waters in 2012, but they didn't take long to gel. After a ferocious yet fluid series of recording sessions, the newly minted supergroup put the finishing touches on their eponymous debut, which appeared in 2013. The band's sophomore long-player, the progressive rock-leaning Hot Streak, was issued in 2015. Two years later, Kotzen announced that the Winery Dogs were going on hiatus. The trio officially re-formed in 2022 and released the aptly named III in 2023. Recorded in Kotzen's home studio, the ten-song set saw the group continue to refine their bluesy, classic rock sound with assured technical prowess. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
