Théo Charaf is a young French singer-guitarist who played in various local garage-punk bands. Then he one day, discovered «Devil Got My Woman» by Skip James, and didn’t get over it. He came to the blues through rock, the old story of the roots of Led Zep or the Stones. But those who have seen him on stage know that this story is worth repeating.
At the age of 27, Théo Charaf plays guitar and sings with an extra touch of soul of those who do it for the right reasons, who express themselves and pass on the warming torch, rather than by imitation. When he plays, Théo Charaf is crossed by the spirits of Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, Blaze Foley or all those folksingers of the great outdoors dented by existence and the road. In May 2019, he gave his first solo concert, and met on the same night Hervé Bessenay from the vintage Electrophonic Recordings studio, who recorded him on live takes, as well as members of Automatic City who signed him to their new label Wita Records. With an artwork signed by french illustrator Jean-Luc Navette and a support from local record shop Dangerhouse Skylab, Théo Charaf has good people around the release of his first album on January 22nd 2021. A poignant record that summoned the ghosts and demons of Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young and Richard Hawley.
A voice, a guitar, an attitude... No doubt that this first album will reveal Théo CHARAF as one of the songwriters to check out in 2021.
