Forget about firearms, this Gun right here is for Gunnar, Gunnar Ellwanger. Born in England from German parents, his teenage years spent in the Parisian suburbs preceded by a childhood in Germany and you have a trilingual with a Scandinavian name. Go figure. A symbol of all the cultural intermingling that feeds Gunnar’s identity. The wood is for the tree, its deeply embedded roots and far-reaching branches, akin to all of the life journeys that merge and separate, that break and grow back stronger. Why choose between folk poetry and hard rock, the freedom of the seventies and the edginess of the nineties, Irish harmonies and American topography when you can mix it all up and spread new sprouts? Gunnar Ellwanger (voice, guitar), Jeff Preto (bass, voice) and David Jarry Lacombe (drums, voice): the sap of Gunwood flows from all three since their first steps as a group which, following the footsteps of bewitchers of the 2010’s such as Alabama Shakes, Feist or The Black Keys, nowadays establishes itself as finally chiselled vibrators. Strong from the flock of praises and numerous concerts that followed the release of the striking Traveling Soul in 2017, the trio came back even stronger with a second album produced by the deftly handed Jean Lamoot (Noir Désir, Alain Bashung). 2022 must only let itself be guided by the thrilling aura of "Dream Boat Jane”.
