Formed in 1994, Chicago indie pop-rock stalwarts, Thrift Store Halo (Frank Gradishar, Scott Proce and Cory Hance) often draw comparisons to local contemporaries such as Material Issue and Urge Overkill, as well as more well-known acts such as Suede, Gin Blossoms, Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub, and Velvet Crush. The common thread: well crafted, hook-heavy guitar pop-rock, with loud, crunchy riffs, big drums and earnest, yet unpretentious vocals. Their 1998 debut LP, World Gone Mad, featured the tracks "If I Go" (featured on the cult TV show, Smallville and Pensacola Wings of Gold) and "Crashing In" (featured on Party of Five). Following their initial late-1990s heyday, the band took a 20-year break to earn the money (from "real jobs") to pay off their recording (and beer) tab, before unexpectedly resurfacing in 2016, like a long-lost favorite concert T-shirt you feared was thrown out and gone forever. Since then, the band has delivered, via Pravda Records, three EPs, a two-song single, and a surprise Christmas track, contributed a new song to the Pop Aid CD benefitting Ukraine, and remastered and rereleased its first EP from 1996. Each offering has been greeted with strong FM and internet airplay, favorable reviews, and regular inclusion on indie radio charts and "Best of" lists, proving that there is no age restriction on producing memorable, hook-filled indie pop rock songs! Here's to another 29 years of making Chicago proud!
