Amanda Roff & Tom Carlyon are Time For Dreams, an Australian duo making bleak, smoky, dehydrated bad-dream pop. The musical scenes of their soon-to-be-released, apocalyptic second album unfold across the rooftops of a metropolis or in a desert, or on the steppes of some other planet where half-buried electric cables glitch in the breeze, and zombie fires smoulder in the peatlands. In other words, expansive, overwhelming or limitless scenery, viewed from a tiny window high up on the edge of a citadel. Their debut album, In Time (2017), was a hot and humid fantasy set in imaginary nightclubs and bathhouses around the globe. Their single, You’ve Got a Friend (2018), is a seductive, sinister plea for connection in a dark and frightening world. Their music is at once stark and lush, vivid and hazy. It has a strong fantasy aspect and speaks to the existence of multiple realities. A perfect soundtrack for the end of the world.
