You may think that To Athena grew up as the child of <a href="spotify:artist:1aSxMhuvixZ8h9dK9jIDwL" data-name="Kate Bush">Kate Bush</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7wkPBPwF9oOZJ8lEbQjIVt" data-name="Mani Matter">Mani Matter</a>, and would have warbled the second voice to <a href="spotify:artist:1dfeR4HaWDbWqFHLkxsg1d" data-name="Queen">Queen</a> songs on every vacation trip with <a href="spotify:artist:1rKrEdI6GKirxWHxIUPYms" data-name="Agnes Obel">Agnes Obel</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4LEiUm1SRbFMgfqnQTwUbQ" data-name="Bon Iver">Bon Iver</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0oSGxfWSnnOXhD2fKuz2Gy" data-name="David Bowie">David Bowie</a> in the back seat. And it's not that far-fetched: growing up in a family of violin makers, she spent her childhood singing to the 80s hits that Dad, a former DJ, put on.
To Athena creates a creative outlet for her boundless ideas, diving into underwater worlds between chamber/indie/ and cinematic pop, juggling English and Swiss German and creating her very own cosmos through self-illustrated covers, music videos and live performances.
In 2020, she released her debut album "Aquatic Ballet", which has found an international audience and has been compared to the sounds of <a href="spotify:artist:1WgXqy2Dd70QQOU7Ay074N" data-name="AURORA">AURORA</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:3nOQJdlPEzFVhTEzxwcGax" data-name="Sophie Hunger">Sophie Hunger</a>. Not at least thanks to the dialect song "Angscht", which has been covered in different languages 14 times by other artists, such as <a href="spotify:artist:5iAy6s7P69l0QryuKJE0Tb" data-name="GINA ÉTÉ">GINA ÉTÉ</a> (FR), <a href="spotify:artist:6o9JtuPAyQPyq2WXfQnjaN" data-name="Joules the Fox">Joules the Fox</a> (NL), <a href="spotify:artist:04LdKPNs0taDflOxwGZCGe" data-name="Dachs">Dachs</a> (CH) or <a href="spotify:artist:6rjJd6hQrTcYS7vgigd4uF" data-name="Jeans for Jesus">Jeans for Jesus</a> (CH).
In her second album "The Movie“, which was released in October 2023, she ventures even deeper into her inner life, searching for reasons and abysses, which she distills in both English and Swiss German lyrics.
2023 To Athena won the Swiss Music Award in the category "Artist Award".
Live she performs with keys, drums and cello, or in her 9-piece orchestra.
