Tom Hickox is an acclaimed British singer/songwriter and composer who, in April 2025, marked his return with his long awaited third album The Orchestra of Stories.
Hickox rose to recognition in 2014 with his debut album War, Peace and Diplomacy released on Fierce Panda Records, becoming the first artist from that label to appear on British music TV programme Later with Jools. The album was co-produced by Hickox and long time Richard Hawley collaborator, Colin Elliot. Hawley himself guests on the album with a ravishing slide guitar solo on Out of the Warzone. Garnering widespread critical praise, “the most powerful and lyrical songwriter this country has produced in years” (Daily Telegraph), the LP showcases Hickox’s storytelling talent, with unusual and striking character studies couched in a woozily British Americana.
The 2017 follow up Monsters in the Deep expanded Hickox’s palette into a world of vintage synthesisers and received a similarly generous reception, maintaining at its heart the subtle nudges of personal revelation amongst the inhabited roles of found characters. It took on a poppier hue.
Hickox's third album, The Orchestra of Stories, delivers what its title promises: a rich tapestry of human narratives, brought to life with grand ambition and intricate detail in collaboration with The Chineke! Orchestra and Onyx Brass.
