Trey Nichols is a Muscle Shoals-native singer, songwriter and guitarist who has been writing and performing his original material in his hometown and the surrounding areas since before he could drive. The son of Grammy Award-winning artist Gary Nichols, Trey grew up surrounded by musicians, instruments and studios. Nichols says being immersed in such a rich musical culture gave him an incredible connection to music at a young age.
Nichols is a mixed bag when it comes to genre. His solo original projects lean into folk, Americana and even some country influences; however, Nichols primarily has a deep love for rock music of all kinds. He plays acoustic covers of 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s rock—his favorite decade to focus on being the 90s—with some country and pop mixed in here and there. Nichols describes himself as less of a “jukebox” and more of a “vending machine”. He can’t exactly play every song out there, but his extensive variety is bound to please nearly everyone.
Nichols is also the frontman of Shoals-based rock band Yes Trespassing, who has toured across the Southeast and even spent a week playing shows in Austin, TX for South by Southwest in March of 2022. They have released a total of 8 songs since June of 2021 and are planning an year of nonstop releases and shows for 2023. Needless to say, Nichols stays busy and there’s almost always a guitar in his hand.
