TrueBliss are the original made-for-TV PopStars. Before the likes of Bardot, No Angels, Hear'Say, Rouge, and L5 stormed their nations' charts in the early 2000s, TrueBliss (Megan Alatini, Carly Binding, Joe Cotton, Keri Harper, and Erika Takacs) took New Zealand by storm after forming in the first season of PopStars in 1999.
One of the first in the then-new reality TV genre, PopStars documented the making of a girlband. The show's concept was sold on to more than 50 countries.
TrueBliss's first single Tonight entered the New Zealand charts at #1 achieving triple platinum sales. A #1 album, Dream, soon followed - the fastest-selling local album in New Zealand's history, amassing double platinum sales in its first week. The girls then embarked on a sell-out national tour and released two more singles: Number One and Freedom.
However, by early 2000 the momentum had slowed. Carly left to pursue a solo career - scoring a run of hits, and with the arrival of PopStars Australia on New Zealand screens, TrueBliss were overshadowed by the new Australian superstars Bardot. The other girls parted and went on to successful careers in television, remaining firm friends.
While never completely out of the spotlight, the girls (minus Carly) reunited in 2012 to record A Minute of One Day for the Child Cancer Foundation, and have performed sporadically together since.
In 2024 they're celebrating 25 years of PopStars, music, and friendship.
