Tunga Moln was formed in 2011 in Luleå, Sweden by singer and guitarist John Strömshed and drummer Fedja Budimir.
The band recorded their self-titled debut album as a duo, with Strömshed handling both guitar and bass duties. The album was originally intended to be just a demo but was picked up and released by a local label in 2013. Guitarist Rasmus Bogegård and bassist Edvin Holm joined the band shortly thereafter.
In 2014 Tunga Moln signed to Birmingham-based label HeviSike Records who released Tunga Moln II later that year. In 2015 they contributed a swedish-language cover of "All Along The Watchtower" to the Jimi Hendrix tribute album "Electric Ladyland [Redux].
Tunga Moln III was released in late 2017 and showcased the band going into heavier territory.
