Tungusku is a new instrumental project created by Phil Ratcliffe (guitar) and James Defty (bass).
Hailing from Manchester, UK, the band’s music is heavily inspired by the groove-based sounds of the early 70’s, and embraces a wide range of influences including world music, dub and psychedelia.
Having spent most of the last 7 years touring as part of hip hop ensemble The Mouse Outfit, where they became firm friends and constant collaborators, the duo started this project during the first UK lockdown as a fresh release for their collective creative urges.
Despite often having to find unconventional ways of continuing to write and record music under these unprecedented and ever-changing conditions, Tungusku never let up, and have amassed an impressive and varied body of recorded work.
Back in January 2021, their debut single was already being championed by the BBC, with ‘Shorts Weather’ receiving national radio play from BBC 6 Music. Their follow-up track ‘Embers' was recently played by Gilles Peterson on his 6 Music show, merely a week after its release.
As soon as the live music industry returns to some kind of normality, Tungusku will be performing as a 4 piece - guitar, drums, bass and percussion. For enquiries please contact tungusku@mail.com
