UBIKS fuses incidental progressive rock with ambient and electronica. The project began in 2017 under the provisional name of Spring Station, alluding to the two musical projects that Mario del Castillo and Reinhardt Schulz have been part of up to that point: RadioStation, closer to incidental electronics, and Primavera Negra. instrumental progressive sound in classic four piece rock band format.
The need to explore other sounds and new formats originates this proposal based on the idea of generating “music for exhibitions” paraphrasing Brian Eno and his “Music for airports”.
In this way, Mario Del Castillo (keyboards, electronics) and Reinhardt Schulz (Guitars) return to a way of working that they developed as students at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Chile, manipulating and experimenting in the creation of soundtracks inspired by the experimental work with loops and layers of sounds like frippertonics.
The name of the project is inspired by "Electric Ubiks", devices that have the ability to transform into any object or device in the context of a psychologically manipulated reality in a world that is beginning to fall apart. These devices are part of the creative universe of the American writer Philip K. Dick (Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly, The Man in the High Castle, Flow my Tears the Policeman Said, Valis).
