Unendlich’s latest EP, “Misanthrope Divine,” takes the dystopian themes of last year’s album “Paradox of a Broken World” and revisits them at the individual level. Three new songs delve into the heterodoxical worship of misanthropy as an adaptation to the absurdity of modern existence.
The EP encapsulates Unendlich’s unique style of Black Metal that prioritizes song-writing and memorability over atmospherics and incorporates progressive elements without losing cohesion that evokes a visceral connection to the music.
Harsh vocals over embracing melody and emotive leads in “Stillness in Death” embodies the internal conflict over death as a path to solace. “No Light Will Take Me” and title track “Misanthrope Divine” are immediately engaging but never stagnant, with explosive energy channeled into pummeling riffs interspersed with poignant leads and memorable motifs.
The EP also includes two previously released songs re-envisioned, re-recorded and remastered with “Secret of Consequence” positioned as a slow-building but dramatic finale.
Despite the inherent pessimism of Unendlich’s subject matter, there is resolute determination in the elegant and captivating melodies, dynamic song structure, and meticulous production representing the purposeful hand we have in determining our fate.
