Valeluna

A microcassette tape recorder sat in the center of the room as cousins Justin Allison and Ty McMahon began a musical improvisation session. This ritual of synthesizer and acoustic guitar had become commonplace for the duo from adolescence to young adulthood. For years, these dormant recordings piled up until they were discovered by an aspiring music producer. The duo was then invited to recreate these recordings at Houston's legendary Sunrise Sound Studios where a full band was recruited to perform them live.

Valeluna quickly made their presence felt in their hometown by having multiple features on Houston's only rock radio station KTBZ-FM 94.5 "The Buzz" and performing throughout the state of Texas. Among 30 other bands from Texas, Valeluna was crowned champion in two consecutive "Houston's Battle of the Bands" events. The following year, Valeluna was voted "Best Rock Band" in the Texas Buzz Music Awards, leading them to be featured in Paste Magazine, Free Press Houston, and many more publications.
