Vast Asteroid

VAST ASTEROID is an American spacegaze band from the city of Los Angeles. Formed in 2016, the group is composed of singer and guitarist James Poulos, drummer Mark Reback (Slaughter And The Dogs) and bassist Mimi Star (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Ex-Warlocks). After previously playing together in various configurations, the members coalesced around a shared love of the immersive, propulsive and passionate music styles of shoegaze, space rock, desert rock, art grunge, and Britpop.

A brief writing and rehearsal period in the Highland Park neighborhood of L.A. quickly led to a recording session for the band's debut… A self-titled, full-length album that is an otherworldly yet hauntingly familiar epic, made to blow minds and soothe souls. The album will be released this November and was tracked during a beautiful and torrential storm on a magical week at the legendary Rancho de la Luna studios in Joshua Tree, CA last winter.

The boards were manned by Producer/Engineer Andy Freeman, and Engineer Johnnie Burik. Good vibes provided by host extraordinaire + co-conspirator Dave Catching of Eagles Of Death Metal, whose guitar magic can be heard on the final epic track called “Spacegaze”, which was a late-night, totally improvised jam that we were lucky to capture on tape, and is presented on the album with no overdubs…
