An Englishman and an American in Amsterdam, each versed in the musical riches of their respective countries as well as in those of non-existent ones, combined their talents and became: VeldHans.
After a year and a half in their sound laboratory tinkering with exotic instruments and gathering field recordings they are ready to share their unusual musical landscapes with the world. The debut album The Becalming will be released October 16, 2020 on OneAcreRecordings and Great Waters.
Over nine tracks, The Becalming spans genres and circles the globe incorporating skipping vinyl, flying saucers, East Asian pipes and ethereal waltzes along the way whilst maintaining a healthy regard for a hummable melody.
VeldHans is inspired by musical greats like The Books and Penguin Café Orchestra as well as early folk music from the 1920s and 30s. VeldHans are Stuart Cullen and Jonathan Brown.
Stuart Cullen is a composer, songwriter and producer from the West of England. He is best known for his Pilote project which ran from 1999 to 2016 over seven albums.
Texan singer-songwriter Jonathan Brown is also known as Dusty Stray, his alt-folk-noir musical alter ego going on since 2009. He is currently working on the sixth Dusty Stray album, which will be released in the spring of 2021.
