Verbow

A branch-off of the Evanston, IL, duo Jason and Alison, Verbow is a power pop band greatly enhanced by singer/guitarist Jason Narducy's punk roots and <a href="spotify:artist:0fQWoByAkKBRfnq3fxeanf">Alison Chesley</a>'s mesmerizing cello. Jason and Alison had expanded into the band <a href="spotify:artist:1DwFdML6JPf7SSeXmSRnVN">Skinny</a> after adding drummer David Suycott and bassist Jason Block, but they soon changed their name to Verbow -- a British <a href="spotify:artist:1DwFdML6JPf7SSeXmSRnVN">Skinny</a> already had dibs on the name. Drummer <a href="spotify:artist:2lTf3H1av5qO500OFYzWMT">Mark Doyle</a> and bassist Luke Rothschild replaced Suycott and <a href="spotify:artist:4ahnCwEbQDGnP8SjGj7xWW">Block</a>, respectively. Friend and fan <a href="spotify:artist:0fWvSXbvztkeHEnEuYvU2A">Bob Mould</a> produced the band's EP Holiday, as well as their first CD, Chronicles; both were released in 1997. Doyle subsequently left the group and was replaced by <a href="spotify:artist:0fWvSXbvztkeHEnEuYvU2A">Mould</a>'s touring drummer <a href="spotify:artist:7dSKiOgnMP1XHIj3vO1uIU">Matt Hammon</a> during the early-1999 recording of the band's next album; after the album was completed, Rothschild also departed, with former <a href="spotify:artist:6gFwox9mB0xWQll2Y63Z8L">Lotus Crown</a> bassist Lennie Dietsch coming onboard.
