Vitrail is a Post-Black Metal band from Quebec City, Canada.
Starting as Simon Tremblay’s (Guitars, Vocals) solo project in 2019 and meant to consist solely of a one-off EP, the idea of forming an actual band begins once Richard-William Turcotte is approached to play the drums early 2020. Shortly after the release of the EP, Frédéric Custeau (Bass & Arrangements) joins the band in spring and the newly formed band starts working on their first full-length album.
Though inspired by the likes of Deaf Heaven, Alcest and the current surge of atmospheric black-metal bands, Vitrail’s sound stands out by their shorter songs, quick transitions and distinctive progressive elements.
Vitrail, which is french for stained glass, draws its inspiration from sacred texts and art which has shaped our world for hundreds of past generations. Faith may have faded with time, but the message and symbolism still finds a way to strike us with awe. “Les pages oubliées” (The forgotten pages) stands as a tribute to the lost wisdom one can find through these relics.
Now, they propose a third release entitled ''Le mépris du monde'' (Contempt for the world) on January 20, 2023 which continues the path of the first album, while adding a new facet, just as dark and luminous...
