Voltage bracht op vrijdag 12 april hun vijfde studioalbum uit, genaamd ‘Fortunes & Willows’. De titeltrack en opener van het album geeft meteen richting aan de toon en betekenis van het album. Het is een levensverhaal gevat in een drieluik: hoe was je opvoeding, wat neem je daarvan mee en wat geef je door aan je nabestaanden.

Frontman Dave Vermeulen en gitarist Ruard Sanders sloten zichzelf twee weken op met het idee om dit album te schrijven. Door dit keer alles samen te schrijven hebben de songs, zowel muzikaal als tekstueel, een diepere laag gekregen. Daarna doken ze samen met bassist Kai Liebrand en drummer Edwin van der Burgt de studio in om een Voltage ‘verified’ album op te kunnen nemen.

Dave: “In 2021 ben ik vader geworden maar in datzelfde jaar ben ik mijn eigen vader
verloren. Door die confrontatie met zowel nieuw leven als de dood ging ik me meer en meer afvragen wat ik eigenlijk vanuit mijn jeugd mee heb gekregen en wat ik zelf achter
zou willen laten, mijn legacy. Die gedachte werd de rode draad van het nieuwe album.”

‘Fortunes & Willows’ is opgenomen in Uncle Gabe’s Soundstudio in Eindhoven. Anders dan de vorige albums, wilde Voltage deze keer meer een studio-vibe dan een live-vibe creëren.

Voltage bracht tot nu toe 2 singles uit, ‘The Wild Ones’ en ‘Leave It All Behind’, die beide het predicaat Topsong van NPO Radio 2 kregen.
