VUES are an indie alt rock/pop band from Los Angeles. Sometimes tugging at harmonic structures from the dark troubled soul of old blues, the glimmering synth tones of 1980s new wave, and the dream-like surfy guitars of the 1960s, their live performances are often described as hypnotic and physically captivating. The band’s inception took root when singer-songwriter Michael Glines and bassist Adam Pardee met drummer Chris Durant through a college friend. There was an instant chemistry between the three, not just as artists with a common musical vision, but as candid friends in a sometimes pretentious and often unfriendly city. Built around Glines’s songwriting, the music draws sonic influences from acts like Arctic Monkeys, Young the Giant, Tame Impala, Tears for Fears, and Black Keys. Today the members include Glines and a revolving cast of different musicians and producers, focused on marrying the sonic landscapes of decades past with the lyrical and melodic milieu of today’s indie rock and alt pop.
