War in the West is a Southern California recording project led by singer/songwriter Erik Moe and drummer/producer Tom Johnson. Someone once described our sound as "SoCal Americana." That seems about right.
We play out as a duo around California, but we are mainly studio nerds who like nothing more than to spend a weekend at Bluerock Studios in San Luis Obispo working on new material for our catalog. Our songs have been featured in the films Goodbye Hello, Death Link, Motor Bike Thief, and in a commercial for Infiniti USA. We're always looking for more. We enjoy collaborating with other musicians, producers, and engineers all around the world and we’ve managed to rally some truly great talent to our cause. Collaborators include Mikal Blue (Toad the Wet Sprocket, Colbie Caillet, Jason Mraz), Dean Dinning (Toad the Wet Sprocket), Carl Verheyan (Supertramp), Bruce L. Fowler (Frank Zappa Band, Captain Beefheart, Hans Zimmer), Stephen Edwards, Dave Dakich, Bill Sewell, Scott Crisp, Valerie Pinkston (Diana Ross Band), Alex Walker, Alex Knezevic, Ivo Knezevic, Doug Livingston, Tyson Mulhardt, and Evan Ball.
