Award-winning composer and recording artist, Randy “Windtalker” Motz has had a life-long passion for Native cultures, history, legends, and the First Peoples’ sacred connection with the earth. Though not Native American by heritage, he shares what he has learned with others online and at his performances. In this respect, he considers himself Native in spirit. The name “Windtalker” is the trail name he used in 2006 when he and his wife thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, and it became his professional stage name when he began recording and performing live.
In 2006, Windtalker recorded his first Native American-style flute CD, “Native SoundScapes,” followed by “Canyon Whispers,” in 2011. “Hόzhό’ – Walking in Beauty,” was nominated for “Best Native American Album of 2016” by One World Music Radio after remaining on OWMR’s Top 100 chart for six months.
“Awakening,” recorded in 2020, is a soothing blend of Native American-style flute and ambient-infused orchestration. It was awarded runner-up for “Best Flute Album of 2020” by OWMR.
"Wind, Water and Stone," released in April 2022, was inspired by his experiences in America's National Parks and his passion for the Native Americans that once called them home. This album musically depicts the unique grandeur of each park, while honoring the First People’s by interweaving Native American-style flute throughout each composition. It was the recipient of the "Best Flute Album of 2022" award by One World Music Radio.
