On "Spell Of The Crimson Eye", Wolf Prayer deal with a wide variety of topics in seven songs: the longing for a new love ("Desire"), the loss of personality of a loved one due to oblivion caused by illness ("Oblivion"), the mindless following and carrying out of socially "respected, correct" teachings and losing oneself in an everyday routine ("Doctrine"), the eternal game between good and evil ("Cards Of Evil"), a homage to the moon, the moon landings of NASA's Apollo programme between 1969 and 1972 and space travel ("Luna") and the inner urge that results in a conscious personality change that one accepts and thereby wrongs loved ones ("The Devil Told Me So").
The starting point for the album was "homemade demo recordings" during the turn of the year 2020/2021. Between October 2021 and June 2022, the seven songs were recorded in individual sessions at Love Station Studios in Bierbach and produced by Christian Hack, the silent fourth band member. Christian Schmid then mixed the album in close collaboration with Jan Sprengard in his Vienna studio.
Wolf Prayer see "Spell Of The Crimson Eye" as a further refinement of their style, a mixture of atmospheric fuzz/desert/stoner and heavy rock, which had its origins on "Echoes Of The Second Sun". This time it was important for them to capture the "power, consistency and force" of their live set.
