Derrius “XLUE” Pettis, 25, is an up-and-coming hip-hop/rap artist from Little Rock, Arkansas. XLUE grew up on south Pulaski Street where he faced trials and adversities that taught him the importance of love, loyalty, and respect. XLUE lost his mother at the age of 11 and at age 19 he witnessed the murder of his best friend Cam a.k.a “Luccy”. These experiences have played an integral role in shaping XLUE’s life and serve as inspiration for his music.
XLUE’s rhythmic storytelling is melodic and impactful. Through his lyricism he paints vivid pictures that can be seen and felt. XLUE considers his musical influences to be Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Nipsey Hussle, and Meek Mill. When describing the foundation of his music XLUE says, “I just let my soul speak.”
