A product of Brixton, the core members of Yaaba Funk met on the London African drum and dance scene in the 1990s when they studied with master musicians from Africa and Brazil. Formed in 2006 their music features Ghanaian highlife, cut with a strong dose of afro-broken-beat and more than a hint of dub, and comprises two infectiously energised vocalists, powerful horns and a tight rhythm section underpinned by analogue bass and African guitar. With a strong and loyal following, YAABA FUNK are punky Afro-roots music for the 21st Century.
