Fusing tight-knit syncopated grooves with textured synths and effortless vocals, Brighton quartet Yakul’s own unique brand of forward-thinking ‘Future Soul’ has cultivated a dedicated following since the band’s beginnings in 2017. Comprising members James Berkeley (vocals/keys), Tom Caldwell-Nichols (bass), Sam Hughes (drums) and Leo Utton (guitar), the four-piece’s distinctive musical chemistry and dedication to their craft has resulted in a natural evolution; gradually distilling a myriad of influences and skilled musicianship into a sound entirely of their own.

Hotly tipped by the likes of Complex, Clash and Red Bull, in recent years the band have amassed millions of streams while gathering hard-earned support on the live circuit thanks to triumphant festival performances at Glastonbury and Love Supreme, and tours throughout the UK and Europe including multiple sold-out performances at legendary London venues Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz Cafe.

Along the way, Yakul have enjoyed airplay from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Jazz FM, KCRW & others, receiving admiration from industry luminaries Giles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and more. The four-piece released their debut album 'Rise Indigo' in 2021 to enthusiastic acclaim, with their consistently progressive output leading to several accolades over time, including being nominated for Track of the Year on Gilles Peterson’s prestigious Worldwide Awards, along with a Best Jazz Act of The Year nomination at the Urban Music Awards.
