YG Hootie began rapping in Compton at an early age. An early standout from the New West movement in LA from the mid 2000’s, Hootie made his name on mixtapes like “Young Compton” & “Prince of the Bity” and compilations like the “Pro Club Series”. With 5 features on southern rapper Waka Flocka’s debut album “ Flockaveli” in 2010 and a feature on Gucci Mane and Waka’s collab album “Ferrari Boys” (15th and the 1st) the following year, Hootie cemented himself in the trenches of rap. “Flight to the Motherland” and “Red Zeppelin” are notable album releases from Hootie’s Bricksquad run. “Me and YG Hootie, he from Compton that’s Bompton” rapped Gucci Mane. YG Hootie dropped “2 Presidents” with childhood friend and fellow Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar in 2014. “Kendrick, Martin. Hootie, Malcolm,” rapped Kendrick Lamar on this hip hop classic. Hootie and Kendrick linked again in 2017 on “The City” and also a leak called “Kali Love”. An early pioneer for the west coast, a connector, and authentic representative of Hip-Hop, YG Hootie deserves mentions as a great on the left coast! With a new single dropping (Ring King) and more features in the works, it looks like he will be claiming his throne in 2025 and beyond!
