Blending controlled vocals with hypnotically dreamy production, singer/songwriter Yo Trane's distinctive brand of rap-laced R&B has evolved with each subsequent new release. His minimal yet captivating songwriting informed the gentle but mysterious atmospheres of projects like 2019's Waves in the Moonlight.

Yo Trane was born in Gabon, a country on the coast of Central Africa, but grew up in Paris. Early in life he developed a deep love of American pop music, learning English by obsessively listening to American artists like Michael Jackson and Prince. He began pursuing music professionally in his early twenties, releasing his debut EP, Late Night Drive, in 2016. Response was strong to Yo Trane's dark and seductive blend of trap rhythms, R&B vocals, and occasional rap flows. He continued to steadily issue new material, including singles like "High off You" and "Alone," before releasing the 2019 mixtape Waves in the Moonlight. The woozy and atmospheric nine-song collection featured rapper Lil Baby on the song "Shine Like Beyoncé." ~ Fred Thomas
