Yumna Black, the all-round diverse and silky smooth jazz-laden beat peruser that’s lived in Leicester all his life, has watched the city grow - all the while keeping one observant eye on things. Now the time is right, it seems, to flourish - as his debut UKG release on Wang Records featuring Dread MC proves. And his Flat White release, entitled ‘Magnolia’ is a proper lounge-y all-out summertime jam. Clearly this is one musician who refuses to be stuck like so many in one genre, taking a wide production and performance inspiration from all over the scene; Four Tet to Moodymann to Chaos in the CBD, Bonobo to Oneman. Accumulating these vibes into one vision, whatever style he touches he makes his own and whatever crowd he’s up against – they’re always on board instantly.
