Zamboa is a rock duo based in Tokyo, Japan.
Ryo Shibuya and Takahiro Takeyama began their musical journey in Kagoshima, Japan’s southernmost region, by forming their previous band, Klan Aileen. During the first seven years of their career, they dedicated themselves to studying recording and mixing techniques, rarely performing live. However, around 2014, they fully embraced live performances as a two-piece band. While deeply influenced by psychedelic rock from the ’60s and ’70s and Krautrock, their unique sound also draws inspiration from Japanese folk music and biwa music, making them truly one of a kind.
Their third album, “Milk” (2018), received critical acclaim, leading them to open for international acts such as Thurston Moore Band and Shame. They also composed and provided six original tracks for Tetsuya Nakashima’s film “来る” .
In 2020, they started their own record label, Jolt! Recordings, releasing works from both themselves and other Japanese rock bands.
In 2024, the band changed its name to Zamboa and released the album “未来” .
