Formed in 2019, Zgripsorum have spent the last few years steadily climbing the ranks of the romanian death metal scene. Emerging from Ploiești, their journey began with a series of singles that quickly established the sound and influences. However, it wasn’t until relocating to Bucharest in 2022 and that the 5-piece band solidified their live lineup.
Since then, Zgripsorum have gained recognition on the Romanian festival circuit, performing at events such as Metal Gates Festival, Posada Rock Festival, and Celtic Transilvania.
Now, Zgripsorum are preparing to unveil their debut full-length album, Crown of Malice. Guitarist and composer Rares views this as a defining moment for the band. “This album is a sign of coming of age for us—a reflection of our maturity as musicians and as people,” he says. “While we’ve always leaned into melodic death metal with symphonic elements, Crown of Malice aspires to something more. It’s our answer to the evolution we admire in bands that forged their own paths, incorporating influences while creating something fresh.”
Thematically, Crown of Malice delves deep into power, decay, and the human struggle. Layered within this, it is a biting critique to capitalism, framed through the lens of dark fantasy themes. “Through allegory and vivid imagery, it’s just fantasy, but it all mirrors the systems of power we see in the real world.”
Crown of Malice is not just a collection of songs—it’s a statement, a powerful manifesto to our growth and vision.
