Alternative-rock, post-punk, regular rock, ambient rock… 5HT the Band’s style pulls from late 80’s, early 90’s alternative influences and include guitar ranging from heavily distorted to jangly sweet, a driving bass that could pass as the rhythm guitar and drums that keep the songs in constant motion.
Hidden in the hills of Orange County, California, slightly protected from COVID19, the three piece band put together their first full album release over the lockdown Summer of 2020. The following winter of 2021 they wrote and released two new singles reflecting both frustration and hope for overcoming COVID. ‘We Hate Coronavirus’ a 172 bpm attempt to vent in a more straight-up punk style, and ‘Three Princesses’ a sweeter song meant to inspire, with a techno drum beat no less.
The second album released in Spring 2021, ‘When in Shade’, is a collection of all the songs played in their earlier years when the band was originally called ‘Shade’. Six of the songs are a remastering of their 2008 EP, the other six completed recording over the Fall of 2020.
Their third album, Mostly Harmless, features new material, re released in a special streaming edition, remastered for quieter loudness levels. An interesting feature to the album is that several of the songs are derived from similar chord patterns. The idea was to play almost the same thing on guitar but make it sound different. A number of these were done as instrumentals.
