Abel Ganz had something of a rebirth after the release of 2014’s self-titled album ‘Abel Ganz’.
In 2014 the band thought that this album would be their last (an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink 72 minutes, 14 song signing off statement); six years on however we should all be thankful that’s turned out not to be the case. Not just because 2020 has proved there’s life in this band yet; it’s also the fact that the current line-up of Mick Macfarlane (lead vocals, guitars, bouzouki), Stephen Donnelly (bass), Denis Smith (drums, vocals), Alan Hearton (keys) and David King (guitars, additional keys) along with departing members Davie Mitchell (guitars), Jack Webb (keys) and a number of notable guest players, have produced something very special indeed! The band are creating the most ambitious and challenging music of their long career.
Abel Ganz have collaborated with the likes of legendary guitarist Jerry Donahue and Malcom Jones of Runrig - and the most recent album features the wonderful vocals of Scottish singer Emily Smith, Snake Davis on sax, strings arrangments by Frank van Essen and contributions fromlong-time collaborators Stevie Lawrence and Fiona Cuthill plus a host of talented soloists. The album is mixed by Simon Vinestock (Tears For Fears, Blur, Robert Plant, Simple Minds to name but four) and mastered by White Willow’s Jacob Holm Lupo. The music transcends the progressive label and is has its foundations in classic song writing and lyrical storytelling.
