It’s August 2023. my sister is pregnant and i just bought a pickup truck in New Jersey. I’m here for the month helping out before she has the baby. I need to get back to LA and need the truck to come with me across the great highways of america.
I drove to Roanoke virginia that day and was already sick of the music playing through my speakers. A friend once asked me “are you always singing?” Yes. Always singing in my mind. Always thinkin all the time. Always looking back and looking forward. I started humming a melody that turned into a lyric that turned into a song. That song turned into many songs that turned into an album.
I met a sweet father-daughter combo at a Buccees in Nashville. There was a huge rain storm that day but I still made it to Shamrock Texas. I paid for someone’s dinner on Route 66.
I came up with each idea for this album on the road. I was thinking about life about to happen, the nephew i only knew in spirit and about the place i was leaving, the place i once called home with the friends who were once alive.
Some died of drugs, some died of natural causes, but all of them still lived in my heart. with every mile i drove, the feeling of them knocked and knocked and knocked at the door to my heart until songs spilled out.
These are the stories of everyone i know, have known and will know. these are my journal entries over the course of a week driving though the highlands and lowlands of america. This is The Diary of Living.
