Akkord (sometimes stylized as Δkkord) is an electronic music duo from Manchester, England, whose hard-to-pin-down sound traverses the spectrum ranging from sparse, experimental drum'n'bass to heavy, dread-filled post-dubstep. The duo was formed in 2011 by <a href="spotify:artist:4B5oxjbZ2CClTNt8iEiC4n">Synkro</a> (<a href="spotify:artist:4B5oxjbZ2CClTNt8iEiC4n">Joe McBride</a>) and Indigo (Liam Blackburn), drum'n'bass/dubstep producers who had previously released several collaborative 12" singles together. Akkord's first two releases came in the form of self-released white-label singles in 2012, both containing highly detailed bass-heavy abstract dance music. The duo soon signed with <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Fabric%22">Fabric</a> sublabel <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Houndstooth%22">Houndstooth</a>, and released the dark, dubby Navigate EP in May of 2013. Akkord's self-titled debut full-length arrived by the end of the year, exploring dark ambient textures as well as mutated U.K. garage-influenced beats, putting them in the company of artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:4waYjUUd6ydX8OJwsr54iE">Demdike Stare</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:44z1nVVXZE8d4njcQmQLWc">Objekt</a>. The duo paid tribute to their jungle roots in 2014, starting with a split 12" with <a href="spotify:artist:4CA8PTrbq1l5IgyvBA2JSV">Paul Woolford</a>'s <a href="spotify:artist:59xdAObFYuaKO2phzzz07H">Special Request</a> moniker in which the two projects remixed each other's songs. Akkord's HTH020 EP, released the same year, included breakbeat-heavy track "Continuum" alongside more murky, abstract material. Remix 12" HTH030 finished out the year, containing HTH020 tracks remixed by <a href="spotify:artist:543jOiqi5zLNZIOv7rA6rg">the Haxan Cloak</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1b6p8KZ14dw35fuIuDWQNV">Vatican Shadow</a>.
